Fast Development and Strategic Alliance in China

1. A fast-growing potential market

After twenty years’ effort, DL has become the largest overseas-study counseling company among all similar professional services in Taiwan. However, DL never stops its footsteps. Today, the overseas-study market in China is the fastest growing one in the world. Due to the relaxation of U.S. visa approvals since 2006, the market of overseas-study service in China has grown rapidly.

Figure 1

Figure 1 above shows the numbers of Chinese overseas students between 2001 and 2007. From Figure 1, we will find the number of Chinese overseas students peaked at 150,000 in 2007.

Figure 2

Figure 2 indicates that in 2007, the number of Chinese students studying in the U.S. was 67,723, which accounted for 45% of the total Chinese overseas students in the same year. If we only look at the number of Chinese overseas students in the U.S. in 2007, we will find it has increased by 8.2%, compared to the number in 2006.

Figure3

Figure 3 shows that the number of Chinese overseas students (excluding those from Hong Kong and Macau) studying in the U.S. accounts for 11.6% of all international students in the U.S. All these statistics proves that China holds the fastest growing and the largest overseas-study market in the world, which has self-explained the importance of the Chinese overseas-study market to American universities.

In August, 2007, DL formed another strategic alliance with Longre Training Center, which is a top-notch language training institution (focusing on preparing IELTS and the new TOEFL-iBT). It has more than twenty branches which are located in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and other major cites, training over 80,000 students annuall

In October, 2007, DL opened its Shanghai branch, Jiehe Co. Ltd., and continued to seek more business partners for strategic alliance.
